Belgium Helping Hotels and Restaurants

Belgium announced that they are lowering the VAT on the Horeca sector (hotels, restaurants, cafes) to 6%. (from 21% or 12% VAT, depending on the type of food served).

The new measures to support the economy against the impact of the coronavirus, also include 300 euros citizen aid to support restaurant and culture consumption. In addition, citizens receiving social aid will get an extra 50 euros per month for six months and unemployment benefits are maintained (instead of gradual decrease), and special measures to help artists continue.

Lastly, each resident in Belgium is offered a 10-trip national railway company (SNCB) pass valid until the end of the year.
